- The aim of GENUKI is to serve as a comprehensive "virtual
reference library" of genealogical information that is of
particular relevance to the UK and Ireland.
- Historical
Directories
- This site is produced and owned by the University of Leicester.
A digital library of local and trade directories for England and
Wales, from 1750 to 1919. It contains high quality reproductions of
comparatively rare books, essential tools for research into local
and genealogical history. Several volumes of directories have been
digitised, making source material for many counties and towns, from
1850 to 1920, freely available online. The directories, including
volumes of White's and Kelly's, can be browsed or searched, and the
powerful search engine means that family names, occupations,
addresses and other key words or phrases can be quickly and easily
located to their exact places on pages within the digitised
texts.
- Institute
for Name-Studies
- This is the home of research into place-names and personal
names at the University of Nottingham. The English Place-Name
Society (EPNS) is the established national body for the subject;
its offices and library are housed in the Institute.
- Images of
England
- This site is funded by English Heritage and the Heritage
Lottery Fund, is a groundbreaking initiative which aims to create a
"point in time" photographic record of England's listed
buildings.

Archives
- The National Archives is at the heart of information policy -
setting standards and supporting innovation in information and
records management across the UK, and providing a practical

re-use of public sector information. The National Archives is also
the official archive for England, Wales and the central UK
government, containing 900 years of history from Domesday Book to
the present, with records ranging from parchment and paper scrolls

- This collection aims to conserve and make publicly accessible
the photographic heritage of the North East Midlands, thus enabling
people to see the richness and diversity of the area's photographic
collections. Many images in the collection are irreplaceable -
digitising protects the originals from wear and tear and enables
users all over the world to view the collection via the
Internet.
- Portable Antiquities Scheme
Site
- This web site provides background information on the Portable
Antiquities Scheme, news articles, events listings and access to
their database of objects and images. The Portable Antiquities
Scheme is a voluntary scheme to record archaeological objects found
by members of the public in England and Wales.
- Victoria
County History
- Founded in 1899 and originally dedicated to Queen Victoria, the
VCH is an encyclopedic record of England's places and people from
earliest times to the present day. It is purported to be the
greatest publishing project in English local history, having built
an international reputation for scholarly standards. Based at the
Institute of Historical Research in the University of London since
1932, the VCH is written by historians working in counties across
England.

- The Derbyshire VCH Trust, a voluntary body established in 2001
to build on the fund-raising work of an earlier steering committee.
The Victoria History of the Counties of England (always called VCH
for short) was founded in 1899 as a project to equip every county
in England with a standard set of reference books providing a
comprehensive description of the history and geography of both the
county and each parish within it.
